THE 2005 SHEEP JOUSTING GRAND NATIONALS

In sheep jousting, selecting a sheep that is going to provide a wide base is paramount. Here, Gabby has chosen the massive Horned Dorset, Marguerite.
Boston, on the other hand, prefers the younger and more fleet of foot Texel ewe Vanilla, who also provides a wide base for balance.
The demanding sport of sheep jousting requires good balance. Gabby gets in the proper position atop Marguerite.
Strategy and communication between rider and sheep is also very important in sheep jousting. Boston and Vanilla make battle plans.
The contest is about to begin. The riders and sheep position themselves. Last minute instructions are given.
Gabby (front) and Boston (rear) size-up one another. The first joust is crucial and must be skillfully executed.
The battle begins! Riders attack while sheep continue to munch on hay oblivious to the great conflagration above.
Blows are exchanged, but these kids are tough and will fight to the bitter end.
Gabby delivers a decisive blow that unseats Boston. Vanilla seems perplexed as to where her rider has gone.
As is tradition in sheep jousting, Gabby acquires the loser's sheep while chastising her opponent as he stands, vanquished from the flock.
